Changes coming to the BSA?
As of January 2018, the Longhorn Council has begun an Early Adopters Program allowing girls to join Cub Scout Packs and begin working their way through the ranks.
Pack 248 is proud to be one of those pack. We already have a few girls among our ranks and we are looking forward to welcoming more as they come!
The boys and girls come together for our meeting opening ceremony, song, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, Scout Law, and Scout Oath, opening prayer, and then we separate the boys and girls in to respective areas with appropriate leadership to go through our den lesson for the evening. Then, we come back together for our closing and announcements.
There are no opportunities for adults to be alone with scouts or boys to be alone with girls for safety reasons.
In addition to allowing girls to join, we have also expanded our ranks to include Lion Cubs! This means we are now accepting boys and girls from age 5 to 4th grade. Boys in fifth grade may also join. Unfortunately, as the Boy Scout program is still being assessed for proper addition of girls, we are currently unable to accept 5th grade girls at this time. Please check back in the Fall and we'll be glad to discuss the changes to the program that take place over the Summer!
